Ice Skates are here!!

Miss 8's new ice skates finally arrived from Canada last week, after waiting since 17 June!!

I was so thrilled on Friday when she had her first lesson in about 3 months. She listened beautifully. She tried everything that was asked of her and she was listening attentively. I was really pleased, since her attention span can be either fantastic or completely goldfish-like.

I'm hoping that soon she'll be able to get a programme done, so I can make her a beautiful costume. It's been so long since she did any competitions, I really miss it.

vocabulary part II

so here are some of the words I forgot on my list last time

randad = grandad
bag
ball
light
book
coke
pepi = pepsi
choclet = chocolate
John
hat
sorry
bye
hello
toast
poo
pat pat = pat me
fall
oops
warwa = water

she's also been stringing some words together:
dropped it

up, key, door, car = this is what she says when she knows we're going out.

We've also worked out that when she says "door" she really means "open the door" :)

J Rock

Miss 8 is participating at the Junior Rock Eisteddfod Challenge in just a couple of weeks. In fact, her performance is in 9 days.

JRock is where schools pick a theme and they do a dance routine with props and costumes. Miss 8's school has picked a "Safari" theme, and she is going to be a Monkey in the ensemble. She's most excited about the prospect of being on stage at the Entertainment Centre in front of a huge crowd of people and doing her stuff.

On the performance day, she has to be dropped to school at 8am and won't get to come home until 11:30pm.... L-O-N-G day!

Today when I picked her up from rehersals (there is only 1 left :EEK:) I got to see a bit more than what I've seen in the past. It's come together really well. 100 kids (ranging between year 1 and year 7) all together, what a nightmare for the teachers! But they work really well together!

I can't wait to see the finished performance :)

to market, to market

to buy a fat pig...

well, I didn't buy a fat pig, but I did manage to haul my sorry ass out to Mathilda's Market at City Hall today.

It's the first time I've been, and there was a few familiar faces there, like Kathryn from TikiBoo Kids http://www.allyouneed.com.au , Rachel from Knitwish http://knitwish.etsy.com , and Jo from Lovestamp http://www.madeit.com.au/lovestamp .... and I was pleasantly surprised by the vast array of really cute things there.

I was so inspired by all the beautiful handmade things for children, and now I'm more determined to start my range of softies and hopefully (although this is probably somewhat ambitious!) some handmade quilts. I think, if I can sew enough, I'll start an etsy shop, or maybe made-it.

I hate school holidays

You can always tell the end of school holidays. They pretty much always end up in some sort of meltdown. Sometimes by me. Most of the time, Miss 8.

This kid needs the interaction with other kids. I used to joke to her gymnastic coach that when holidays were on, she'd be bouncing off the walls because she wasn't expending the amount of energy she normally would. But it's so true. She goes stir crazy. CRAZY CRAZY!

I've just had a phone call from mum to say she's had a meltdown there. She wants to come home NOW. I am not about to go and get her, so she's just going to have to wait.

I really can't wait for school to be back tomorrow.

There have since been two more meltdowns this afternoon and tonight. DH took the light bulb out of her bedroom light, because she wouldn't hurry up and turn off the light for bed. School starts back tomorrow and at 9:11pm Miss 8 was still farting around ....

Lord give me strength!!

if you're looking for nice stationery

a girl I know off internet land has started up an Etsy shop with some uber-cool stationery.

Confetti Hearts

It looks really cool, and I've had stuff from her before that she's made, so its definitely cute and well made.
